Computational Space Physicist
Predictive Science, Inc. in San Diego, California invites applications for a position in solar and space computational plasma physics. This position is suitable for candidates with less than 5 years experience after their doctorate, including recent doctoral students graduate, but more senior scientists will also be considered. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2009, and will continue until the position is filled.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the activities of the solar
physics group at Predictive Science by developing numerical
algorithms, performing code runs on massively parallel computers,
and analyzing the output. The successful candidate will present
his/her activities at conferences and prepare scientific
publications in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate
will have the potential to eventually fund all or part of his/her
research by winning proposals in a competitive environment.
Job Qualifications
Ph.D. in solar/heliospheric physics or a related field. Must be
able to communicate effectively. Preference given to candidates
with expertise in developing computational
fluids/magnetohydrodynamics algorithm, Fortran 90, and experience
in massively parallel computations (in particular, MPI).
