Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, is spread through an insect biting one infectious person, contracting the virus, and then biting a susceptible individual. This person now has dengue and will show symptoms in about a week or two. The symptoms are high fever, headaches, pain between the eyes, joint and muscle pain, vomiting, nausea, skin rashes, mild bleeding, and fatigue. Because there is no vaccine for dengue, the best way to prevent it is to prevent insect bites by using bug repellent, staying indoors, and wearing long sleeves and pants.
