Big Bear Solar Observatory

The Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO), operated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology, is located on the north shore of Big Bear Lake in California. BBSO specializes in solar observations, utilizing its state-of-the-art Goode Solar Telescope (GST), a 1.6-meter clear-aperture telescope that captures detailed images of the Sun’s magnetic fields, flares, and sunspots. Its location in a high-altitude, low-turbulence environment provides ideal conditions for groundbreaking solar research.
